February 10, 2011

On Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced a $750 million investment in prevention and public health -- building upon the $500 million investment last year. Sebelius said the new taxpayer dollars "will help prevent tobacco use, obesity, heart disease, stroke, and cancer; increase immunizations; and empower individuals and communities with tools and resources for local prevention and health initiatives."
Clearly this is an example of what Mr. Reagan once said, "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem". We not only have a spending problem within our government, we have a government that believes in their latest mantra 'We know better than you on how you should take care of yourself and your family', and as such they're going to war with tobacco, salt, fast food, soda, trans fats and anything else they deem hazardous to our lives. This is most amazing for Our Founders gave us a good form of government combining responsibility and accountability - the responsibility falls on us to hold our government accountable for their actions. Our job today is to remind the Government that their job is not to be our Mother or Father. Our Government, much like our children, need to be reminded every now and then of who is in charge and what their Constitutional authority really is.
The 10th Amendment states "Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution...nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." The People - that's us! If you're not fed up with this government of ours that has become intoxicated on its own power using our own tax dollars against us - then you're just not paying attention.
